African continent can feed itself
Africa could produce enough food to feed itself, suggests Kanayo F. Nwanze, President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), yet it is not doing so. In a talk at the 2016 EAT forum in Sweden, he stated that Sub-saharan Africa spends about 35 billion US dollars every year to import food, excluding fish which costs another 600mUS$ – a lot of money which could be better invested in rural and agriculture development in Africa itself, to make the continent more self-sustaining, and of course, promote development where it is sorely needed.
